Robert I. Best,
age 70 of Shannon, IL, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon, IL. He was born May 24, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to the late Ira and Bernadine (Foehrkolb) Best. He graduated from Aquin High School with the class of 1964. Bob married Blondena Moe on April 16, 1983 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon.
In his younger years, Bob loved making deliveries for State Street Pizza and developed a life long love of pizza. He had worked at Kelly Springfield for 36 years, retiring July 1, 2004. After retirement he worked part-time for the Lake Carroll Pro Shop. Bob attended Bethel United Methodist Church of Shannon. His memberships include the Eagles Club, the Moose Lodge, the Indian Trail Bowman Archery Club and Indian Princess. He loved dancing and won several disco competitions. He found his passion for golf after retiring from Kelly's. He was very sociable and was known as a great conversationalist. Bob also played the role of Santa Clause every year for 48 years and played a clown after attending clown school in La Crosse, WI.
He is survived by his wife, Blondena Best of Shannon; son, Bryan Best of New Baden, IL; daughter, Jodi (Ted) Wesby of Freeport; step-children, Renee Siegner of Freeport, Patrick Boshela of Bentonville, AR, and Kimberly (Zach Pusso) Boshela of Compton, GA; grandchildren: Devin, Sierra, Landon & Ella Best; Lathaniel & Andrea Best; Derek Gietz; and Ayla & Luca Pusso; great grandchildren, Camden & Aaliyah; brother, Bill (Connie) Best of Freeport; and sister, Debra (Douglas) Krogull of Lena. He is preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Marcella Ebel; cousin, Judy Dees; and step-son-in-law, Billy Siegner.
A visitation will be held Sunday, September 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon. The funeral service will be Monday, September 26th at 10:00 am at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established for Bethel UMC and the American Cancer Society of Rockford.
