Obituary

Roger Clark Townsend, age 62 of Stockton, IL, died Tuesday, November 06, 2012 at home. The son of Howard H. (Doc) and Helen Jane (Clark) Townsend, he was born on July 25, 1950 in Freeport, IL.

Mr. Townsend was a Stockton High School graduate, a Vietnam-era veteran stationed overseas with the Eighth US Army in South Korea, a carpenter (like his father), and an amateur photographer of some note. He had photos published on the front page of the Chicago Tribune and was widely known for his web site JoPost, which featured Stockton Blackhawks' sports and other local activities. He also worked at a photo shop in New York City for several years, all around North America, and the Caribbean installing the newly invented digital telephone switches for Northern Telecom. He had also worked for Fritz's Nursery and Jedi Computing here in Stockton.

Survivors include his mother Helen Jane; sister Marcia (Thomas) Dick of Malta, IL; brother Steven (Janice) Townsend of Indianapolis, IN; half-brother Howard H. Townsend Jr. of WA; half-sister Sandra Pembarton of WA; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Howard and half-sister Dixie Stabenow.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton. The funeral service will be Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM also at the funeral home, the Rev. Brenda Morris and Paul Fritz presiding. Internment will take place at Townsend Cemetery in rural Stockton. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society, Stockton High School Sports Boosters, Wesley United Methodist Church of Stockton, and FHN Hospice.
