Obituary

Ronald Rugland , age 64 of Shannon, IL, died suddenly from an aneurysm on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He was born February, 24, 1952 to the late Ralph and Marilyn (Miller) Rugland. He graduated from Shannon High School in 1969. He went on to attend Northern Illinois University where he received his Master's degree in Art.

After college, Ronald taught English to the military in Iran. He returned to Chicago and took up employment at RR Donnelley Publishing CO as a supervisor. He then became manager of the Research Department. Ronald then moved back to the Shannon area and taught Art at Dakota High School until he retired to enjoy his art and gardening. In his younger days, he traveled all over the world backpacking. He was a true artist in all he did. He was a photographer, jewelry maker and carpenter. He was known as a "Jack of all trades."

He is survived by his partner of 35 years, Selwyn Leslie of Shannon; aunts, Judy (Fred) Thompson of Shannon; Linda Gronewald of Lanark, and Lois Swalve-Boland of Gresham, OR; uncles, Darrold Miller of Fort Wayne, IN and Wayne L. Miller, Sr. of FL; numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins; and special friends, Lynn Edler of Shannon, Michelle Horner of Shannon, Connie Greenfield of Shannon, and Lien, Hiep & Hope of Rockford. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Roxi.

Cremation rites have been accorded. No services will be held according to his wishes. A memorial fund has been established.
