Obituary

Ruby Grace Warfield, age 86, of Shannon, IL passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Serenity Estates of Lena. She was born in rural Milledgeville on July 29, 1939 to the late John and Hazel (Slifer) Stone. Ruby married Roy H. Warfield on November 8, 1958. Roy passed away July 29, 2005.

Ruby was a lifelong member of Shannon Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School. She also helped with VBS at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. Ruby was a 1957 graduate of Shannon High School. She had served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Ruby had worked at Elkay, the Shannon Bowling Alley, Shannon Café, Shannon Tee-Lee, Shannon Village Nursing Home, Forreston Groenewold Fur, and Walnut Acres in Freeport. She enjoyed going for walks and chatting with people along the way, fishing, puzzles, bingo, and going to the annual Shannon Fireman’s pancake breakfast. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Darla (Keith) Martz of Shannon; her sons, Roy Jr. (Jackie) Warfield of Freeport and Wade (Sarah) Warfield of Shannon; her grandchildren, Robert Martz of Shannon, Steven Martz of Shannon and Tiffani (Colt) Bowers of Leaf River; her two great grandchildren, Hudson and Carter Bowers of Leaf River; and her sister, Linda (Scott) Lawson of Lena. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Richard Warfield; and her siblings, Dorothy Jean (Roger) Finifrock, Evelyn June (Ames) Schryver, Robert (Diane) Stone and Lois (Walter) Carr.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Shannon Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established.
