Shirley Anne Moen , age 79, of Lanark, IL passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Monroe Clinic Residential Hospice Home. She was born May 18, 1942 in Elizabeth, IL to the late Walter and Gladys (Hoppe) White. Shirley married Burnell Moen, Jr on January 27, 1968 at First Lutheran Church of Chadwick.

Shirley attended Stockton Schools and graduated from Freeport High School. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Chadwick, the Shannon Auxiliary, Shannon's Women Club and Lanark Chamber of Commerce. She had worked as a manager at Lanark Mutual Insurance Company. She was a member of IAMIC and also served on the Board of Directors at PLN Mutual Insurance in Dixon. Shirley had previously worked for Swanson Insurance in Shannon.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, fishing, dancing, and being outdoors – including flower gardening, cutting wood, and monitoring bonfires. Shirley especially loved sending cards in the mail for any special occasion. She was a talented poet and excellent with the written word.

Anyone who knew Shirley was impacted by her contagious energy and zest for life. She had a combination of boundless gusto and creativity – whether creating fun Christmas games, writing poems, or penning a book for her children's reading pleasure.

She is survived by her husband, Burnell Moen of Lanark; her sons, Charles (Susan) Kappes of Lanark and Duane (LeAnn) Kappes of Freeport; her daughter, Rebecca (Richard Smith) Moen of Palatine, IL; her 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Morgan; and a grandchild.

A private family memorial service will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
