Sylvia A. Kunz
, age 78 of Stockton, IL, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born February 16, 1938 in Pleasant Valley Twp. to the late Freeman and Goldie (Schrader) Brunner and stepmother, Sue Brunner. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1956. Sylvia married Ronald Aurand in 1955, they raised five children together on a farm in Yankee hollow south of Stockton. She married her soul-mate Norman Kunz on June 18, 1983.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sylvia worked at Sullivan's Grocery Store for 30 plus years. She also worked as a cook at the Stockton Elementary School for many years, retiring in 2014. She was loved by all and had many stories to tell about her days working in the school lunchroom. Sylvia loved boating, especially on the Mississippi River and was a certified "River Queen". She, her husband Norm, and their dog Suzie Q had many friends up and down the river. They traveled frequently with friends and enjoyed winter trips as well as their time on the river. She was a member of the Wa Tan Ye Club. She enjoyed dancing and baking and could light up a room with her infectious smile, laugh, and spunky personality. Her desserts were a highlight of every family gathering.
She is survived by her husband, Norman of Stockton; children: David (Lynn) Aurand of Lake Summerset, IL, Dianna (Darrell) Shoemaker of Peoria, IL, Kathy (Dan) Diaz of Lena, IL, and Kristi (Ted) Davenport of Stockton, IL; stepchildren: Kevin (Cathy) Kunz and Kerry (Anna) Kunz; siblings: Norman (Joanne) Brunner, Michael (Sandi) Brunner, Connie (Don) Hill, Jerry (Amy) Brunner, Tom (Darcie) Brunner, Bill (Darlene) Brunner, Barbara (John) Kern, Theresa (Randy) Risser, Patrick (Donna) Brunner, and Deb (Jim) Nobis; grandchildren: Ryan (Aristene) Aurand, Jeff Aurand, Stefanie (Adam) Flach, Jessica Aurand, Chad Merrifield, Jacob Merrifield, Richie Johnson, Renee (Willie) Hayes, Kristopher Shoemaker, Erica Duffy, Cory Shoemaker, Rachel Collier (Chad Hornung), Nicholas Wienand, Alyssa (Mark) Krizic, Zachary Diaz, Bill Davenport, Carrie Davenport (Colin Seiter), Justin Davenport, Jeffrey (Brittiney) Kunz, Justin (April) Kunz, Carley Kunz, Sydney Kunz, and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many dear friends. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, and daughter, Cindy.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hermann Funeral home in Stockton. The memorial service will be Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 am also at the funeral home. Luncheon to follow the service at The Corner in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established.
