Thomas W. Gornick,
age 64 of Stockton, IL, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. He was born October 21, 1951 in Berwyn, IL. He graduated in 1969 from Leo High School in Chicago. Thomas served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was proud to be an American. He returned home from the war to marry the love of his life, Nancy Eischen on June 9, 1973 in Hickory Hills, IL.
After working for 34 years at Country Cast Products with friends, Hans & Elsa Weinert, he retired in 2012. When Tom's children were younger you could often find him coaching one of their baseball or softball teams, building balance beams for his daughters, playing catch in the yard, riding the horse, helping his wife with household projects, fishing, camping, or planning the next race in the field. Once his children were grown, he never lost sight of being a simple man. He cherished his time with his grandchildren, and was always showing them a "new trick." Family always came first for him. In his spare time you could often find him reading history books, traveling, jamming out to music or fishing. He was the most loyal Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawk fan. No fair weather here!
Thomas is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy of Stockton; daughters, Melissa (Matt) Hoyle of Solon, IA, Cynthia Gornick of Shellsburg, IA, and Stephanie (Martin) Wild of Hanover, IL; son, Andrew (Rhiannon White) of Belvidere, IL; grandchildren, Michael, Jordan, Kaileah, Johnny, Madalyn, Lucy, and Mark; brother, Lou Gornick of Naperville, IL; sister, Denise (Dan) Dewitt of Downers Grove, IL; best friend, Bill (Jerri) Powers of Port Charlotte, FL; and many sister/brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Gornick; and sister-in-law, Claire Gornick.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 24th at 2:00 pm at the Holy Mackerel, 113 S. Main St., Elizabeth, IL. A memorial fund has been established.
