Truman P. Meier, age 75 of Stockton, IL, a long time educator in this area died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. During his 42 year career in education, he taught in Port Byron, IL, in Freeport, IL where he was Principal at First Ward School and Harlem School, and an Art teacher at Freeport Jr. High. He served as Principal at the Stockton Elementary and Middle School and was an Art teacher in Lena, Lanark, and Shannon until retirement. After retirement he continued to work in the Freeport School District. He continued teaching Art part time at the Stockton Elementary School. Over the years Mr. Meier worked briefly at Menards in Freeport, Ken Harold Buick Pontiac, and the Freeport Art Museum. Throughout his years in education, he also worked as an artist and playwright. He wrote, produced, and directed a number of plays throughout the Freeport area. Mr. Meier was an enthusiast about things mechanical including sports cars and motorcycles. He was born August 11, 1936, in Geneseo, IL, the son of Ernest and Clara (Prell) Meier. He married Kay Hellebuyck on June 6, 1959. A graduate of Geneseo High School, he received a B.A. from Western IL University in Macomb, and an M.S. from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant son Thomas Paul. He is survived by his wife Kay, his daughter Kimberly (Jay) Bauer of Stockton, brother Donald (Joan) Meier of Geneseo, two sisters Marjory (Richard) Hedlund of Loves Park, IL and Audrey (Noah) Inbody of Barrington, IL, and three grandsons Drew Bauer of Stockton, Dillon Bauer of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Austin Bauer of Stockton. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Unitarian Univeralist Church in Stockton. A private funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM. The burial will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established.
