Vera Waneta Mueller Johnson, age 94 of Stockton, IL, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Stockton Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 4, 1920 at home in Woodworth, IL; the daughter of the late Fred and Mathilda Mueller. She was baptized at home on Good Friday on April 20, 1920. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodworth by Rev. F.N. Jeschke. Her confirmation verse was Luke 10:42.
Vera graduated from Watseka High School in Watseka, IL on May 31, 1937. She married Robert M. Johnson at the Chicago Temple in Chicago, IL on September 27, 1946. Vera and Bob founded and operated Stockton Skelgas in Stockton for 35 years. Vera is a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena, IL. She was also a founding member of the Stockton Wa-Tan-Ye and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary.
Vera enjoyed traveling and has been in all of the 50 United States. She traveled to Israel, Jordan and Egypt. She enjoyed playing bridge and euchre; especially the weekly card game with Mervin at the Stockton Health Care Facility. Vera had a great sense of humor and loved to tease the staff at the nursing home, especially Pam and Tammy.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Gerald) Gerlach of Stockton; grandchildren, Jeff Johnson, David Johnson of Stockton, Michael (Teresa) Gerlach of Brodhead, Marcia (Robert) Dubach of Monroe, and Lora (Spencer) Cross of Purcellville, VA; great grandchildren: Alex & Lauren Johnson; Nick & Sam Johnson; Trent & Taylor Gerlach; Luke, Jack & Jason Dubach; and Helen Cross; great great grandchild, Alayna; brother, Fred Mueller; sister-in-law, Joan (William) Wenger; and brother-in-law, Jay (Shirley) Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert M.; son, Robert L.; great granddaughter, Megan Johnson; and brother, Robert Mueller.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or a memorial donation, share an act of kindness to a child today, tomorrow, and forever.
