Verlyn Giedd , age 76, of Shannon, IL passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Ascension Living St. Joseph Village in Freeport, IL. He was born in Avon, SD on December 5, 1945 to the late Leonard and Clara (Janssen) Giedd. Verlyn married Connie Lessman on September 14, 1968 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. Connie passed away November 25, 2021.

Verlyn was a graduate of Shannon High School. He served in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, camping, collecting guns, and attending all the kids, grandkids and great grandkids sporting events. He drove the bus and was scorekeeper for his son's basketball games.

He is survived by his sons, Rod (Tammy) Giedd of Shannon and Ryan (Alisha Metz) Giedd of Lanark; his grandchildren, Drew (Marissa) Giedd, Delanie (Tyler) Mellnick, Chase (Katie) Giedd, Tyler (Kara) Giedd, Emily Giedd and Tanner Giedd; his great grandchildren, Bearett Giedd, Beau Mellnick, Jaxon Giedd, Greyson Giedd, and Knox Kruse; his brothers, Dave (Ramona) and Arnold (Kay); and his sister, Betty McCollum. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brothers, Duane, Dale, Harvey and Raymond.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a private family graveside service at Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established.
