Vivian Swope Kromm Nicol, age 93 of Shannon, IL, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Provena St. Joseph Center in Freeport, IL. Vivian was born January 10, 1921 in Compton, IL, the daughter of the late Elijah and Edna (Holdren) Swope. She graduated from Mendota High School in 1938. Vivian married Roy Kromm on October 21, 1939. Roy passed away December 27, 1992. Vivian married Wilbur Nicol on November 23, 1996.
Surviving are her husband, Wilbur; two daughters, Joyce (Jon) Dinges of Mendota, IL and Jean (Barry) Meyers of Lake Carroll, IL; one son, Leroy (Nancy) Kromm of Santa Clara, CA; daughter-in-law, Linda (Winters) Kromm of Shannon; Jan (Marge) Nicol of Shannon and Kirby Nicol of Capitola, CA; eight grandchildren, Mark Dinges of Mendota, Lori Mateika of Freeport, Andrea Moring of Freeport, Layne (Tanya) Meyers of Waterford, WI, Karla (Dan) Laverty of Naperville, IL, Jeff (Tammy) Kromm of Freeport, Russell Kromm and Jenny Kromm both of Santa Clara, CA; seventeen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents; son, Dean; infant daughter, Nancy; grandson, Rob Meyers; and step-daughter, Susan Hilmer.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport; Rev. Gary Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Compton, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shannon Food Pantry.
