William "Bill" Sligar, age 77 of Freeport, IL passed away Friday, March 13, 2020. He was born November 15, 1942 in Glendale, CA; the son of Wendell William and Elva (Gittings) Sligar.

He served in the US Army. He was a member of the National Martial Arts Assoc. for over 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, target shooting, collecting knives and martial arts.

He is survived by his sons, Ronald (Tess) Sligar of Shannon, IL and Joshua Sligar of MN; daughter, Margaret Kmetz of St. Charles, IL; grandchildren, Brittany, Brianna, John, Daniel, Kevin & Shannon; great grandchildren, Emma, Brantly, Jayce, Mia, Brody & Brinley; and sister, Virginia Sligar Brown of Oak Lawn, IL. He was uncle to four, Ralph, Katherine, Linda and Brian; great uncle to four, David, Lisa, Heather, and Steven; and great great uncle to three, Alex, Violet and Ruby. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 17 th at 7 :00 pm at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be shared at www.hermannfuneralhome.com.
